Inv. #: f261
Maker:

GLT

Description:

The patinated, silvered and gilt-bronze case depicts a small sailboat with a rocking oarsman up front on patinated waves and a red variegated base.

Case:

The patinated, gilt and silvered bronze case depicts a small sailing vessel with a multi-piece mast, draped sail and rudder amid patinated waves on a stepped variegated red base with bronze corner feet. The rowing patinated oarsman stands up front while the clock in the form of a secured barrel is towards the stern.

Dial:

The painted gilt-bronzed dial has Arabic numbers for the hours, is signed by the retailer, ‘S. Smith and Sons, Trafalgar Square, London’, has steel spade hands, a gilt reflecting ring and beveled glass.

Movement:

The 8-day time-only movement carries the GLT stamp, is wound and set out the back and incorporates the oarsman, suspended on an ‘X’ suspension, as the pendulum. They are connected via a linkage that is accessed and adjusted through a removable panel in the hull.

Notes:

For a video of it running see our YouTube channel.

The oarsman, much like the Helmsman clock, incorporates the figure as the pendulum so the animation continues as long as the clock runs.
