Description:

A rare early 19th century French ormolu clock that depicts a maiden supporting a milk jug surrounded by barnyard animals. Both she and the sheep have enamel eyes similar to those found in the blackamoor series.

Case:

The well-cast ormolu case depicts a barnyard scene with a maiden supporting a milk jug accompanied by several animals that include a sheep, rooster, a chicken with her hens and a lamb. Both she and the sheep have enamel eyes similar to the ones found in the blackamoor series. The whole stands on an oval base with four unusual bird feet.

Dial:

The white porcelain dial has black Roman numerals for the hours, steel-cut Breguet-style hands and is signed ‘Dubuc’.

Movement:

The eight-day time and strike movement has a silk-thread suspension that is adjusted off the back-cock, a pendulum with a butterfly bob and strikes on a bell.

Notes:

Dubuc is listed as working at Rue du Grand-Hurleur in 1800.

They produced some wonderful examples including the desirable George Washington series.
