Description:

Rare late-19th century animated industrial clock depicting a version of the double watt steam engine.

Case:

The multi-finished decorative bronze case has numerous elements of the double watt steam engine including a large fly wheel, a governor, numerous pumping shafts and a large rocking beam above. While running they all move to simulate a working steam engine. All the elements sit upon a brickwork case that houses the barometer, clock and thermometer and is supported by a red and black marble base.

Dial:

The conical time dial has an engraved silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals for the hours, has steel-cut hands and has a gilt center signed by the retailer, ‘Camerden & Forster, New York’.

The smaller barometer and thermometer dials flank the time dial and have silvered chapter ring dials with gilt-bronze centers.

Movement:

The time and strike movement has a platform escapement with the fast slow out the dial and strikes on a bell.

The animation movement is set inside the brickwork, winds out the side and runs for aprox. 1.5 hours.
