c.1895 French grand-sonnerie carriage clock in pagoda style case by Achille Brocot.

Case:

Japanese inspired gilt-bronze case with multi-colored patinated decorative panels, handle and columns.

Dial:

Silvered chapter with Chinese characters and steel-cut hands.

Movement:

The 8-day grand-sonnerie movement is signed on the backplate with the Brocot trademark, has a lever platform above and the strike selector switch below.

Notes:

This form with grand-sonnerie striking is very rare.

Achille Brocot (1817-74) was the eldest son of Louis-Gabriel Brocot. He carried on his fathers business in Paris. He patented several improvements in escapements and also invented the adjustable pendulum spring suspension which bears his name.
